About The Event

RouteStock are proud to present Parvathy Baul at St Mary of Charity Church

Parvathy Baul is a Baul folk singer, musician and storyteller from Bengal and one of the leading Baul musicians in India. Trained under Baul gurus, Sanatan Das Baul, Shashanko Goshai Baul in Bengal, she has been performing both in India and other countries since 1995. She has performed in over forty countries, including such prestigious concert halls and music festivals as the Noh Theater in Kyoto, the World Music Center in New York City, Melbourne Arts Center and the Festival of World Sacred Music in Fez, Morocco. She has also collaborated with world’s leading theater director Eugenio Barba.

She is well known for her masterful solo rendering in the oldest style of Baul song and dance. She sings and dances only with minimal use of Baul instruments like Duggi, Ektara and Nupur all played at the same time.

She visits several dance, theatre and music institutions across the globe in the capacity of a teacher.

Parvathy performs mystic songs both from traditional Baul repertoires and her own doha couplets. She uses elements of theatre and cantastoria or sung stories as part of her performances by acting out the lyrics or at times adding explanatory speeches in English.
