About The Event

In EXTRA, three of contemporary music’s most fearless improvisers collide in a sonic

high-speed chase that redefines what a jazz trio can be. Far from revisiting standards

or offering tidy interplay, the group constructs an explosive, multilayered language

where glitchy electronics, hardcore grooves, and unruly textures crash into one

another—often within a single phrase.

The band fuses Evans’ sculptural trumpet vocabularies with Eldh’s hyperactive bass

playing and Jim Black’s volatile rhythmic outbursts. The result is a kinetic, shape-

shifting sound world where every moment is packed with risk and surprise. Each

musician pushes the others into new terrain: Evans fires compressed bursts of sound

or labyrinthine melodic spirals, Eldh loops, twists, and distorts the pulse, while Black

triggers acoustic and electronic ruptures that defy easy categorization.

Described as “relentless in the best way” (Free Jazz Collective), EXTRA creates music

that is at once deeply technical and gleefully anarchic. It is a band with no brakes,

where even moments of silence feel charged with potential energy. Their debut

album, EXTRA (2024, We Jazz Records), has been called “one of the best jazz records

of the year” (Monolith Cocktail), celebrated for its urgent pace and wild, genre-

bending unpredictability.

EXTRA isn’t just a band—it’s a dare. For listeners ready to be hurled into the

unexpected, this trio offers the thrill of pure musical combustion, with no safety net

in sight.
